As reported on BBC Sport, Christian Benteke’s goal against Everton at Goodison Park last Saturday was his first strike since April 2019.
The goal ended his torrid run of 17 matches and 765 minutes of Premier League action without a goal.
The Eagles went on to lose the match 3-1 against Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Many Palace fans could not believe that the Belgian had actually scored a goal for the club.
The attacker hasn’t really been prolific during his time with the club, finding the back of the net just 22 times in 107 appearances (Transfermarkt).
Manager Roy Hodgson recently admitted that scoring goals was a problem that his side has had all season and that was on display again against the Toffees.
Benteke had a glorious chance to score his second against Everton but was denied from point-blank range by goalkeeper Jordan Pickford, who made up for his error from the first goal.
Many fans responded with shock to Palace’s tweet that Benteke had scored.
