Premier League side Crystal Palace are set to make a summer move for defender Nathan Ferguson in the summer, according to a report on the Daily Mail.
The Eagles failed in their pursuit of the teenager in the January transfer window despite agreeing on a deal with the Baggies, because of an issue during the player’s medical.
Palace called off the move but as stated in the report, they’re still interested in securing the youngster at the end of the season after his contract at West Brom expires, and we feel this could be a positive sign for the club. Why?
Because it will show the board’s intention to improve the current squad, which is something that manager Roy Hodgson is desperate for. The manager wants to see more ambition from the club’s board and owners in the transfer market, and securing Ferguson’s signature could go some way to helping that.
Ferguson is a versatile player, he can operate as a centre-back or right-back, meaning he will provide the manager with more defensive options when setting the team up.
Another thing Ferguson would add to the squad is youth.
The current average age of the Palace squad is just under 30 years old and that could be a reason why they’re not playing the most entertaining or fast-paced football.
Since losing Aaron Wan-Bissaka, the Eagles have failed to secure a long-term replacement and WhoScored list tackling as one of Ferguson’s main strengths, meaning he could be the ideal man to come in.
