Crystal Palace manager Roy Hodgson has warned the club that he wants assurances regarding the club’s transfer plans for the summer before signing a new contract, according to a report on The Express.

The Eagles boss was reportedly disappointed with the club’s transfer activity last month and wants more new faces at the club in the summer, as reported on The Telegraph.

Palace completed the loan signing of Everton forward Cenk Tosun until the end of the season and also secured the signature of youngster Scott Banks from Dundee United before he left on loan.

As stated in the report, a new one-year deal is ready and waiting for Hodgson but he wants the club’s board and owners to assure him that money will be spent on new players before he puts pen to paper.

We believe that Hodgson has every right to ask for assurances before penning a new deal. Why? Because as the manager of the club, he has the right to expect financial backing whenever he would like to sign a player who he feels would make his job easier.

The Eagles were pretty unlucky not to secure the signing of Nathan Ferguson last month as a problem during his medical resulted in the move breaking down.

11 of Palace’s signings since the 2018/19 season have been loans or free transfers (Transfermarkt), which proves that Hodgson is clearly not getting the chance to make a quality signing for a decent fee.

We feel the club are lucky to have a manager this patient because other top-flight bosses may not have put up with this kind of transfer business for as long as Hodgson has, having been in the job since 2017.
