Palace fans full of praise for Benteke

Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke retained his starting spot for the club for their 1-0 victory over Newcastle United.

Patrick Van Aanholt’s stunning free-kick provided the three points for the Eagles but it was a victory that demanded a high work rate from almost everyone on the field.

Benteke, who started as the lone man up front, did well to pressurise the Newcastle backline on multiple occasions and provided a threat from set-pieces.

He was a towering figure in attack and was hard to handle, proven by the fact that he won eight aerial battles in the 88 minutes that he played (WhoScored).

The Belgian international’s defensive contribution was also good, making three clearances, which was the second-most in the entire Palace team.

Many of the club’s fans took to Twitter to praise the striker, who has only scored one goal this season in 19 appearances across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
