Palace prospect Scott Banks caught the eye of many Palace fans, as well as those from other clubs, after a superb individual display was rewarded with a skilful goal.

Senior squad members Christian Benteke, Martin Kelly and James Tomkins all featured as they looked to regain fitness – but it was Scottish youth player Banks that stole the show as Palace U23s beat their Wolverhampton counterparts 2-1.

In a formidable counterattack, Palace started the move with goalkeeper Ollie Webber launching the ball into the opposition’s half, with Benteke sliding the ball to an advancing Scott Banks. The former Alloa loanee then dribbled forward as he looked to test the Wolves U23s’ back-line, before laying off the ball to fellow academy prospect Brandon Pierrick.

Pierrick then penetrated the Wolves U23s’ defence with a delicate pass before Banks slotted home in what was a commendable display of communicative link-up play.

Banks, who signed from Dundee United in January 2020, had spent the 2018/19 campaign with Clyde F.C. During his time on loan with Clyde, he won the club’s Goal of the Season and was named Man of the Match in the game that secured Clyde’s promotion from the Scottish League Two.

Banks spoke with excitement at the prospect of playing for the Eagles as he gave an interview upon signing.

“There’s no bigger stage I’d want to play on [than the Premier League]. It’s a big step up coming from Scotland.

“When you hear about that interest [from Crystal Palace], you want to pursue that, and push myself to the highest level. So it was a no-brainer that this was the place for me.”

Football fans have now expressed that keenness for Banks to make that very step up…
