A number of Crystal Palace supporters have suggested that they do not think manager Roy Hodgson is capable of adapting his style and utilising the Eagles’ squad to kick the club onto the next level.
Palace suffered a frustrating 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Friday night, but the Eagles are still well placed having collected ten points from their opening seven Premier League matches. However the Eagles managed to register just two attempts on target all night at Molineux.
So far this season, Palace have managed just 57 attempts on goal in their opening seven matches, which is the lowest total in the division (premierleague.com). In 2019/20, the Eagles registered more attempts on goal than only Sheffield United, suggesting that they need to adapt their methods to become more creative in the final third.
Hodgson managed to bring in Eberechi Eze and Michy Batshuayi in the summer, with those arrivals adding greater depth to the Palace squad in the final third. However, so far Eze has made just two starts in which he has shown flashes of his ability, averaging 1.5 successful dribbles per game (Sofascore).
Palace fans debate whether Hodgson can instil a more progressive style
Many Crystal Palace fans have suggested that they believe Hodgson’s tactics are far too negative despite having more squad depth this season, while others believe that he needs to adapt his system if the Eagles are going to improve in the long run.
“Most competitive squad” yet he’ll still pick the same boring team and the same boring tactics week after week 🥱 https://t.co/mczAzxS6EN

Best squad he’s had since he’s taken over but we are just going backwards https://t.co/BNx6BRgPtr

We are so much better than the negative system Roy insists on playing. It’s painful to watch and the players look miserable.

So no excuses now when his negative system fails

He’s got to learn to trust the players rather than the system 😕

First you have to have a plan b and a variety of ideas.

Yeah, try experimenting playing attacking players in their correct positions and not encouraging attack after attack for most of the game by sitting back
