Crystal Palace fans are arguably the most passionate fanbase in the country. They can also rile up opposition supporters, and that was the case last night against Tottenham Hotspur.
Oliver Glasner’s men already piled more misery on relegation-battling Spurs with a 3-1 win. Ismaila Sarr’s brace and Jorgen Strand Larsen’s strike secured a comeback win.
The Lilywhites’ season went from bad to worse after Micky van de Ven was sent off. They had taken the lead through Dominic Solanke, only to capitulate as they have throughout the season.
Palace fans having a party
Crystal Palace‘s win over Spurs might be remembered as the night that truly sent the Lilywhites down to the EFL Championship. Many expected this to be a potential turning point for Tudor’s side.
The visiting fans mocked their London rivals with brutal chants during the victory in North London. They chanted:
“Sit down if you’re going down!”
Tottenham sit 16th in the Premier League table, a point above the drop zone with seven games remaining. This isn’t the only dig the Selhurst faithful made on their visit to Spurs.
Another chant predicted relegation for the Lilywhites:
“Say Hi to Millwall!”
Should Tudor’s men indeed be sent packing from the top-flight, they could meet Millwall in the EFL Championship next season. The Eagles’ supporters celebrated their victory when leaving the stadium by poking fun at their other rivals:
“We’re having a party. We’re having a ball. Brighton and Millwall. Have won f**k all!”
Palace fans might have more reason to party at the end of the season should they add another trophy to the club’s cabinet. They are in the last 16 of the Europa Conference League and face AEK Larnaca with the first leg next Thursday (March 12th).
Henderson’s hilarious celebration
In the midst of a Crystal Palace win over Tottenham, it was clear what Dean Henderson makes of a potential transfer to the Lilywhites. The English goalkeeper is reportedly on Spurs’ wishlist as a Guglielmo Vicario replacement.
Henderson’s response to Strand Larsen’s goal was caught on camera and indirectly sent a message. He replicated Jean-Philippe Mateta’s signature celebration, kicking a corner flag with the opponent’s badge on and pumping his fist towards the visiting fans.
Henderson has taken the club captaincy following Marc Guehi’s move to Manchester City in January. He has been heroic for the Eagles again this season, keeping 14 clean sheets in 38 games across competitions.
The 28-year-old will be vital for the new manager who replaces Glasner this summer. His experience and leadership qualities have made him a dream during his time at Selhurst Park.
