  • ‘Top clubs’ already keeping an eye
  • The Eagles will only sell for record fee

Crystal Palace might already have a fight on their hands to keep Jaydee Canvot at the club. The French defender arrived at Selhurst Park last summer.

Canvot has enjoyed a stellar start to his Palace career, making several impressive performances. He’s earned a regular spot in Oliver Glasner’s defence and looks the real deal.

The Eagles paid Toulouse £23 million to bring the 19-year-old to South London. He is regarded as one of the most exciting young defenders in Europe and, as such, has grabbed the attention of several top clubs.

Canvot eyed by top clubs

Canvot has starred in recent months and remained in Glasner’s defence alongside Chris Richards and Maxence Lacroix. He has put an error against Chelsea behind him and has helped fill the void left by Marc Guehi following his £20 million move to Manchester City in January.

According to Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri, Canvot is “turning heads across Europe” and “top clubs already watching him.” The club are eager to keep him, but a “record-breaking move isn’t off the table.”

Canvot was signed with the future in mind but his impact during his debut season has been incredible. He’s shown maturity beyond his years and whoever replaces Glasner will be keen to be able to build around him.

A record-breaking move suggests the Eagles are only willing to sell if they receive an offer above their club-record sale. That would mean any interested suitor will have to bid above the £67.5 million Arsenal spent on Eberechi Eze last summer.

Who has previously been interested?

Palace weren’t the only club looking to sign Canvot during last summer’s transfer window. Aston Villa tried to take him to Villa Park but failed with an offer below Toulouse’s valuation, per Fabrizio Romano.

A report from Get French Football News claimed that “many top clubs” were eyeing the France U21 international. It appears such admiration has remained intact amid his superb start at Selhurst Park.

There is no word on the clubs showing interest in signing him from Palace. But if they are from within the Premier League, he has appeared against Manchester United and Chelsea in recent months.

The club control the situation because he only joined last summer and has three years on his contract. Steve Parish’s transfer chiefs are focused on adding a new centre-back to their squad, and that’s not with Canvot’s potential departure in mind.
