- Crystal Palace face Liverpool
- Adam Wharton returns
- Fans react to Ruben Amorim link
Crystal Palace are preparing for a trip to Anfield to face Liverpool tomorrow (April 25th). The two sides played out one of the most entertaining matches of the season in the reverse fixture.
Oliver Glasner’s men secured all three points courtesy of a 90+7th-minute Eddie Nketiah winner. That’s why Arne Slot’s Reds might be out for revenge on home soil.
Liverpool are also chasing Champions League qualification and are out of all cup competitions. That’s not the case for Palace, who are through to the semi-finals of the UEFA Conference League.
Palace Battle Liverpool
Glasner loves a trip to Anfield and is unbeaten against the Reds when visiting the Merseyside stadium. His side head into the game following a frustrating 0-0 draw at home to West Ham United on Monday.
That result leaves the Eagles 13th, six points behind seventh-placed Bournemouth with six games left. If European qualification is to be achieved via the league, this is surely a must-win game.
Palace will also have one eye on next Thursday’s Conference League semi-final first-leg against Shakhtar Donetsk. But Glasner will ensure his players stay focused on leaving Anfield with a positive result.
Wharton Returns
Glasner confirmed in his pre-match press conference that Adam Wharton will be available for the Liverpool game. He told reporters:
“Adam [Wharton] is good. He is fit and trained yesterday without any issues. So he’ll be available for Liverpool.”
Wharton sat out the draw against West Ham after coming off injured in the first half of a 2-1 loss to Fiorentina last Thursday. He has been a key man in the middle of the park, although there is a chance he starts on the bench with the Shakhtar game on the horizon.
Amorim In?
There were shock reports this week suggesting Palace had added Ruben Amorim to their list of potential Glasner replacements. The former Manchester United coach is available after he was sacked by the Red Devils in January.
Amorim endured a disastrous 14-month reign at Old Trafford, overseeing their worst Premier League finish. He clashed with the higher-ups and ultimately was dismissed due to a breakdown in communication.
Palace fans have given a mixed response to the possibility of seeing Amorim take charge at Selhurst Park. Some feel he could be a good fit due to his three-at-the-back system, while others can’t look past the horrors that unfolded during his time at United.
