- Oliver Glasner leaves Crystal Palace in June
- Austrian insists he’s not influencing search for successor
- Can end Selhurst Park reign with European trophy
Oliver Glasner has insisted he has no influence on Crystal Palace’s pursuit of his successor. The Austrian leaves the club in June when his contract expires.
Palace are on the lookout for a new manager ahead of his departure and it appears they have five candidates in mind. A recent report claimed that Andoni Iraola, Thomas Frank, Frank Lampard, Ruben Amorim and Robbie Keane are the names in the frame.
Glasner has been in charge at Selhurst Park since early 2024 and become the greatest manager in the club’s history. He guided the South Londoners to FA Cup glory last season and the Community Shield in this season’s curtain raiser.
Glasner: I’m Not Involved
Palace must get its decision right, given how important Glasner has been and the legacy he leaves behind. He’s the only manager to ever take the South London outfit into European competition.
The Austrian was asked whether he had any say over the matter behind the scenes. He responded (via Sky Sports):
“I’m the wrong person to ask this question. I am not involved in finding my successor; you’ll have to ask the chairman. I don’t know what’s going on behind the scenes.”
Glasner still has a job to do with two months left in charge at Selhurst Park. He will be overseeing his final away game against Liverpool today (April 25th).
The Austrian can leave his role with a remarkable record against the Reds, having won four and lost one of six games. He has yet to taste defeat at Anfield.
Glasne: All Eyes on ‘Lovely Ending’
Then, Glasner and Palace turn their focus to the UEFA Conference League when they face Shakhtar Donetsk in the semi-finals. He suggested he is fully intent on ensuring a successful end to his reign:
“We are focused with hopefully five weeks to go, alot to achieve not just in the Premier League. We want to have a five-point lead over the opponents, which would mean that, over the last two years, we have had the best two Premier League seasons in terms of points.
He added:
“Hopefully, with two trophies we can add another one, and for me that would be a lovely end to the story.”
The Eagles meet Shakhtar in the first leg of their semi-final next Thursday (April 30th). A win in Poland puts Glasner one step closer to a historic European final and the chance to make more history before heading for the exit door.
