- Fulham’s Glasner links are nonsensical
- Glasner should aim higher
- Backwards step not worth it
The future of Oliver Glasner’s career has been a hot topic since he bowed out after just over two years with Crystal Palace, winning the club three trophies in that time. Whilst Palace appear to have secured the RC Lens manager Pierre Sage’s services, Glasner’s future may be closer to Selhurst than many expected.
There were reports that Glasner had held meetings with AC Milan earlier this week, but it is now being reported by SportsBoom that Fulham have entered the race to acquire Glasner’s services.
The Cottagers parted ways with Marco Silva, who had spent five years in West London, leading Fulham back into the top flight and achieving mid table finishes, keeping them above the drop.
Whilst Fulham have been linked to the usual names that Palace fans had too; Frank Lampard, Kieran McKenna and Thomas Frank, Oliver Glasner’s name not only stands out amongst this list, but it simply doesn’t belong there.

It’s never going to happen
As Silva looks set to sign for Benfica in his homeland of Portugal, Fulham are reportedly planning a huge swing as they attempt to convince Glasner to brush aside the likes of AC Milan, and take a step back in his career after two years of tangible success South of the River.
Glasner has emerged as Fulham’s ‘dream replacement’, and it feels as if that is how it will remain, a dream.
Not only did Glasner lead Palace to a historic first trophy, he then guided them to their first ever European trophy in their first European campaign.
Glasner wanted to leave because he felt Palace were not matching his ambition, and that he had reached the natural end of his journey at the club, having achieved more than he could have imagined.
His ambitions surely lie higher than a less successful, equally middling league side, who have done little more than Palace domestically and have never won a trophy in their history.
If he is to join Fulham, in an incredible turn of logical thinking and reason, then he may as well have stayed put at Palace.
Fulham should revert to simpler targets
The likes of Thomas Frank would be a superb addition for Fulham. McKenna and Lampard are not the most experienced in the Premier League but are good younger options. Glasner is completely unrealistic.
As a mid table Premier League side, ambition should be present. Afterall, it’s ambition that led to Palace’s success. However, attempting to bring in a manager who has already done the leg work at a similarly sized club in order to secure a move up the food chain just doesn’t make sense.
A move to Fulham would be a backwards step. The only logical explanation if it were to happen would be one of two things. Money, or the ease of not having to move house. This is a non-starter for me.
