Fans hail ‘unbelievable’ Crystal Palace star after Colombia win
  • Crystal Palace stars at World Cup
  • Daniel Munoz scores in Colombia win
  • South Americans beat Uzbekistan

Daniel Munoz came in for huge praise after a goal-scoring performance in Colombia’s 3-1 win over Uzbekistan at the World Cup. The Crystal Palace right-back was superb as Nestor Lorenzo’s men prevailed at Mexico City Stadium in Mexico City.

Palace fans have watched Munoz become one of the best wing-backs in the Premier League during his time at Selhurst Park. He played a crucial role in the Eagles’ UEFA Conference League triumph last season.

The 30-year-old is competing at his first World Cup and he marked his first outing with a goal. He pulled off an audacious finish to put the Colombians ahead.

Munoz’s Colombia beat Uzbekistan

Munoz made an instinctive run to meet Luis Diaz’s perfect cross and met it on the volley while off balance. He wheeled away in celebration as a partisan crowd went wild.

Uzbekistan equalised through Abbosbek Fayzullaev but the Colombians retook the lead soon after. Bayern Munich attacker Diaz was on the scoresheet before Jaminton Campaz added a third in second-half stoppage time.

Colombia are now top of Group K ahead of Portugal, who were held to a shock 1-1 draw against DR Congo. Next up for the South American nation is against the Congolese next Wednesday (June 24th).

“Perfect finish” – Fans applaud Munoz

Munoz’s goal was celebrated by Palace fans just as much as the nation of Colombia. He’s a real fan favourite at Selhurst Park and that’s shown from the responses to his first World Cup appearance.

The club’s X account posted a snap of Munoz celebrating his goal with the caption: “Daniel Muñoz on the scoresheet for Colombia, you love to see it.”

One fan responded: “I feel inclined to wear this beaut today. It’s taken me 20 years but i think Munoz has replaced Danny Butterfield as my favourite RB for Palace. So exciting to watch.”

Another supporter added: “The movement and the accuracy of that pass. What a perfect finish from Munoz.”

One wrote: “What an unbelievable finish. Most top strikers couldn’t do that.”

Another replied: “A fabulous goal by Daniel. Such a clever clip for his goal.”

Munoz wasn’t the only Palace star in action for Colombia in the win over Uzbekistan. Jefferson Lerma also played an important role in midfield and they are two Eagles shining at the World Cup.
