Chris Richards Starts As USA Beat Australia In World Cup Clash

Chris Richards completed another full 90 minutes as the United States beat Australia 2-0 in Seattle, giving Crystal Palace a fresh World Cup fitness boost.

The Palace defender started in the USA back line as Mauricio Pochettino’s side took control of Group D, with the co-hosts following their opening 4-1 win over Paraguay with a clean-sheet victory against the Socceroos.

Palace’s official tournament tracker noted that Richards was again in action from the start and helped the USA move clear at the top of the section, according to the latest update from Crystal Palace.

Richards Sends Palace A Clear Fitness Signal

For Palace, the key detail is not simply the result. Richards completing back-to-back World Cup matches matters after his pre-tournament fitness concerns, and another clean sheet is an encouraging marker before the knockout rounds.

The 26-year-old has now played every minute of the USA’s first two group games, with Palace supporters able to read that as evidence of both match sharpness and trust from Pochettino in a high-pressure home tournament.

The USA face Türkiye in Los Angeles on Friday, June 26, when a third straight group-stage win would seal maximum points. For Palace, the balance is obvious: Richards is building momentum, but every additional minute also sharpens the workload question before he returns to south London.
