Chadi Riad has given Crystal Palace another major World Cup marker after Morocco booked a Round of 32 meeting with the Netherlands.
According to Palace’s official World Cup player tracker, the Eagles centre-back is due to face the Dutch on Tuesday, 30 June at 02:00 BST at Estadio Monterrey in Guadalupe.
The fixture comes after Riad helped Morocco through the group stage with a decisive contribution in their 4-2 win over Haiti. Palace recorded that as his first senior international assist after he rose to meet a dangerous corner in the 78th minute, with Soufiane Rahimi controlling the knockdown before finishing.
That has turned Morocco’s knockout tie into another live Palace storyline. Riad is not simply collecting tournament minutes; he is being tested before returning to a squad preparing for Premier League and European demands.
Riad Faces A Serious Knockout Examination
This is exactly the kind of stage Pierre Sage will study closely before the new Palace head coach starts work in south London.
Riad has already played the full 90 minutes against Brazil, Scotland and Haiti. Palace also noted that he completed 35 of 40 passes, made three clearances, two recoveries and won both ground duels against Brazil.
The Netherlands should provide a sharper examination. Their attack gives Morocco a major defensive test, and Riad’s role will matter if the Atlas Lions are forced into long spells without the ball.
For Palace, the value is obvious. Riad has already shown tournament durability, and his next challenge arrives against one of the standout sides in the Round of 32.
