Nathaniel Clyne is not expected to stay at Crystal Palace after his contract expired at the end of June.
Palace held discussions with the experienced defender, but no new contract was ever offered.
The club’s retained list had already left his future open. Palace confirmed in June that Clyne’s deal would expire at the end of the month, with talks still ongoing at that stage.
Clyne made more than 250 appearances across two spells at Palace. He came through the academy, left for Southampton in 2012, then returned to Selhurst Park in 2020.
Read Crystal Palace previously covered how Clyne’s contract talks carried a different emotion from the wider retained-list picture, given his long connection with the club.
Palace Move On At Right-Back
Clyne’s expected exit removes one of the most experienced players from the squad.
The 35-year-old had become a depth option in recent seasons. Daniel Munoz remains Palace’s main right-sided defender, while Pierre Sage must now decide how much cover he needs in that area.
Clyne’s departure would also close another chapter from Palace’s academy history. He made his first-team debut in 2008 and later returned as a senior professional.
The decision makes squad sense, but it still carries weight. Clyne has been a reliable figure for Palace across two very different eras.
