Crystal Palace Appoint Ben Wrigglesworth As New Chief Scout

Crystal Palace are set to appoint Ben Wrigglesworth as their new chief scout as Matt Hobbs continues to reshape the club’s recruitment structure.

We Are Palace reports that Wrigglesworth is close to joining Palace to assist Hobbs, with the move initially reported by The Athletic. Sky Sports’ Palace transfer centre has also listed the expected appointment.

Wrigglesworth brings experience from several Premier League recruitment departments. Transfermarkt lists him as Wolves’ head of scouting from January 2022, while We Are Palace also notes previous roles with Leicester City and Arsenal.

The appointment follows a wider rebuild after Dougie Freedman’s move to Saudi Arabia. Palace appointed Hobbs as sporting director last year, and the club have since moved to strengthen the recruitment team around him.

ReadCrystalPalace has already covered Alessandro Brito’s expected arrival and what it could mean for Palace’s South American scouting. Wrigglesworth would add Premier League market experience to that broader structure.

Palace need that extra support before a demanding season under Pierre Sage. The squad faces European football, World Cup return dates and likely interest in senior players during the window.

A deeper scouting team gives Hobbs more routes to find value before prices rise. Wrigglesworth’s arrival would not carry the noise of a player signing, but it could shape several of the decisions Palace make this summer.
