Crystal Palace are expected to offer Ismaïla Sarr a new contract as they attempt to keep the forward away from Fenerbahce.
The Senegal international has attracted interest from the Turkish giants following an outstanding season at Selhurst Park, but Palace have no intention of weakening Pierre Sage’s squad.
The Guardian reports that Palace are expected to offer Sarr fresh terms in an attempt to ward off Fenerbahce. The 28-year-old scored 21 goals last season and remains a key part of the club’s plans.
Ismaila Sarr contract decision sends clear Palace message
Palace’s stance fits with their wider determination to keep their leading players this summer.
Sage is preparing for a campaign which will include both Premier League and Europa League football, increasing the importance of retaining established attacking options.
Sarr’s 21-goal return makes that particularly important. Losing one of last season’s most productive players at this stage of the window would leave Palace needing to replace significant attacking output before competitive football begins.
The club have already taken a similarly firm position with Adam Wharton. ReadCrystalPalace reported on Wednesday that Palace are determined to keep the England midfielder despite Chelsea interest, another indication that the Eagles want to build around their best performers rather than sell them.
Recruitment is continuing alongside those retention efforts, with Palace also pursuing reinforcements across several positions.
No agreement with Sarr over fresh terms has yet been reported, and Fenerbahce’s interest remains.
However, Palace preparing a new contract makes their intention clear. After a 21-goal campaign, Sage wants Sarr playing at Selhurst Park again next season.
