Spurs Lead £20m Transfer Battle for Key Crystal Palace Defender

Crystal Palace face a fight to keep hold of Daniel Muñoz before the transfer window closes, with Premier League rivals circling the Colombia international following Djed Spence’s departure from Tottenham Hotspur.

Spence completed a £30million (€35m) transfer to Inter Milan over the weekend, leaving Spurs active in the market for immediate defensive cover. Palace now find themselves braced for formal approaches for a player who has established himself as a central figure in Palace defensive system at Selhurst Park.

While Roberto De Zerbi’s squad retains considerable depth boasting Pedro Porro, Andy Robertson, and Destiny Udogie, alongside versatile coverage from Archie Gray, Ben Davies, and Micky van de Ven Tottenham’s recruitment team view according to reports Muñoz as the primary target to maintain competition on the right side of their defence.

Losing Muñoz late in the window would deal a huge tactical blow to newly appointed Palace manager Pierre Sage, who replaced Oliver Glasner in June. Since moving to South London from Genk in early 2024, the 30-year-old has established himself as one of the Premier League’s most productive wide defenders.

Across 108 appearances for the Eagles, the Colombian has registered 27 goal contributions. His defining display arrived in the 2025 FA Cup final, earning Man of the Match honours as Palace stunned Manchester City. That landmark victory sparked a golden run, with Muñoz playing a vital role in both the Community Shield victory and last season’s Conference League glory. He carried that scintillating form into the summer World Cup, scoring twice in five matches during Colombia’s run.

Eagles set £20m+ price tag as European stakes rise

Palace hold a firm boundary regarding the defender’s valuation. With two years remaining on his current contract at Selhurst Park, South London executives value Muñoz at over £20million and will not consider cut-price late offers.

  • Contract Status: 2 years remaining
  • Palace Valuation: £20m+
  • Key Competitors: Tottenham Hotspur, Everton, Nottingham Forest
  • European Context: Palace offer Europa League football; Spurs offer domestic stature

From the player’s perspective, any move requires careful thought. Muñoz has openly stated his ambition to test himself at the highest level, yet moving to Tottenham would mean sacrificing Europa League action a campaign Palace earned through their domestic cup success of winning the European Conference League.

Moyes’ reservations and the tactical fit

Spurs are not the only side tracking developments at Selhurst Park. Both Everton and Nottingham Forest have logged interest in the Colombian, with Everton boss David Moyes already conducting business with Palace this summer in a swap deal featuring Brennan Johnson and Dwight McNeil.

However, Moyes retains reservations over Muñoz’s ability to operate as a conventional right-back in a flat four, given his best form for Palace and Colombia has come as an attacking wing-back. That dynamic extends to Tottenham, where De Zerbi prefers a fluid four-man line. Nevertheless, Spurs view Muñoz’s high-octane engine, physical profile, and broad adaptability as a seamless fit for their aggressive system.

With time ticking away in the window, Palace must decide whether to hold firm on a crucial starter or cash in on a player entering the final 24 months of his deal.
