Palace Transfer News: Daniel Muñoz Exit Door Opened as Premier League Suitors Eye Deal

Crystal Palace are no longer ruling out a late departure for Daniel Muñoz before the transfer window shuts.

The 30-year-old wing-back featured from the start in Palace’s 2-0 opening-day defeat against Everton at Hill Dickinson Stadium, but his long-term position in South London looks increasingly uncertain. While manager Pierre Sage publicly insists he remains happy with the Colombia international’s application, the landscape at Selhurst Park has shifted rapidly following significant summer recruitment.

As reported by Pete O’Rourke on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Palace executives are now prepared to entertain offers for the defender. Everton hold a long-standing interest in Munoz and stand on high alert as the deadline approaches.

£25m Price Tag Set Following Selhurst Squad Overhaul

Palace slapped a firm £25 million price tag on Muñoz earlier this month, signalling a clear willingness to strike a deal if a suitor meets their valuation.

The club’s posture stems directly from their recent recruitment drive. The arrivals of Óscar Mingueza and Anan Khalaili bring fierce competition for the right-wing-back spot in Sage’s tactical setup. With Muñoz turning 30 and entering the latter stages of his peak years, Palace hierarchy view this window as the prime opportunity to monetize an asset who arrived in early 2024.

Speaking on Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast O’Rourke detailed the rationale behind a potential deal:

“Munoz would tick a lot of boxes for a lot of clubs because he’s Premier League proven. Everton have been linked with an interest in the Colombian as well as they look to finally solve their right back issues, because that position is still a priority for them. David Moyes has been using Jake O’Brien, Merlin Rohl or James Garner there, so ideally they would like a natural right-back.

“Munoz is 30 now as well, so from Crystal Palace’s point of view, they might think the time has come for him to move on with some of the new signings they’ve made as well. It will come as a little bit of a surprise if they are willing to let him go because of the job he’s done at Crystal Palace, though.”

Everton face genuine competition if they choose to formalise their interest.

Football Insider revealed on August 23 that Nottingham Forest have established themselves as major contenders for Muñoz’s signature, driven by former Eagles boss Oliver Glasner.

Muñoz enjoyed an outstanding rise under Glasner at Selhurst Park, proving pivotal during Palace’s historic silverware haul that yielded the FA Cup, Community Shield, and UEFA Conference League. Having taken over at the City Ground this summer, Glasner remains determined to reunite with his former dependable lieutenant, setting up a compelling battle with Everton in the final days of the market.
