Crystal Palace are weighing up an ambitious £50million swoop for West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen as they plot a late high-profile arrival before the transfer window closes.
The 29-year-old England international elected to remain in East London earlier this summer despite the Hammers’ relegation to the Championship, committing his immediate future to the club through a restructured contract.
Bowen was vocal about his reluctance to walk away following relegation, having established himself as an iconic figure at the London Stadium most famously scoring the iconic 90th-minute winner to secure the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League title
However, reports indicate that Palace are ready to test both West Ham’s financial limits and Bowen’s resolve with a substantial opening offer. While West Ham view their skipper as indispensable for their promotion campaign, the necessity of balancing the books in the second tier means a £50m bid presents a significant dilemma for the Hammers board.
Sarr Exit to Trigger Selhurst Park Reshuffle
The catalyst behind Palace’s pursuit of Bowen stems from the impending departure of Ismaïla Sarr.
The Senegalese winger, who scored 21 goals in all competitions last season, is pushing for a move to Turkish giants Galatasaray in a potential £34m deal. New Eagles head coach Pierre Sage omitted Sarr from his squad entirely during Palace’s 2-0 opening weekend defeat against Everton. With Galatasaray aiming to finalise negotiations within the week, Palace are actively securing high-calibre replacements to ensure Sage has the requisite firepower in attack.
Long-Term Admirers Finally Strike
Palace’s interest in Bowen is far from a recent development. The South London club were frontrunners to sign the forward from Hull City back in January 2020, before West Ham ultimately won the race for his signature in a £22m deal.
Bowen continued to demonstrate top-flight pedigree despite West Ham’s struggles last season, directly contributing to 23 goals (11 goals, 12 assists) across 42 appearances. Whether Palace can tempt him away from his leadership role in East London remains to be seen, but Selhurst Park officials are preparing to push hard in the final days of the market.
