Former Palace forward pinpoints Tottenham’s biggest problem under De Zerbi

Tottenham’s poor start to the Premier League season has raised plenty of questions around Roberto De Zerbi, but former Crystal Palace forward Clinton Morrison believes there is one obvious weakness in the squad.

Spurs have taken only two points from their opening five league games and went into the international break at the bottom of the table. Their biggest issue has been in front of goal, with Tottenham going four league matches without scoring.

Despite that, Former Crystal Palace forward Morrison isn’t ready to write off the team. He believes there is enough attacking quality for things to turn around, but feels Tottenham made one serious mistake during the summer transfer window.

Clinton Morrison believes Tottenham needed a striker

“I think they have good attacking players; they will score goals and win games at some point,” Morrison told BBC Radio 5 Live’s Football Daily podcast.

“The only thing they have missed is when signing all these midfielders and attacking players, they have missed a centre forward.”

Tottenham added Omar Marmoush, Savio and Mykhailo Mudryk during the summer, but Morrison feels the lack of a recognised centre-forward could prove costly.

He also warned that Roberto De Zerbi will demand results from his players after receiving backing in the transfer market.

“De Zerbi will not put his arm around you – it’s his way or the highway, and you have to produce for him. The hierarchy has backed him and given him the money; now he has to get results.”

There was at least one positive for Spurs before the break. They scored twice against Aston Villa, despite losing the match.

Morrison believes those goals could provide a much-needed boost as Tottenham look ahead to a more manageable run of fixtures.
