Ismaila Sarr set for Crystal Palace contract boost after Liverpool saga

Ismaila Sarr could be heading towards a new Crystal Palace contract after his proposed summer move to Liverpool failed to materialise.

According to Football Insider, Palace are close to reaching an agreement with the Senegal international after standing firm when Liverpool showed interest in the 28-year-old during the final stages of the transfer window.

Liverpool were understood to have made a £50million offer, but Crystal Palace refused to sell. The situation then became difficult, with Sarr appearing only twice for the Eagles after his agent publicly criticised the club.

Sarr ready to commit future to Palace

The winger now appears to have put the disappointment behind him. Ismaila Sarr has returned to first-team training, while Pierre Sage remains keen to bring him back into his plans.

Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown believes that could lead to a new deal for the player.

“Crystal Palace want to put an end to all of the speculation about Sarr’s future,” Brown told Football Insider.

“They’d been working on agreeing a new contract with him before all of the Liverpool stuff happened, and I must admit it is a surprise that they seem to be close to an agreement now.”

Brown also suggested Sarr’s attitude has changed after the failed transfer.

“He’s got his head down, returned to training, and the manager still sees him as an important part of what he’s trying to do there.”

Palace have consistently wanted to keep Sarr, and Brown believes that position could now result in a contract extension, potentially including improved wages.

“Crystal Palace’s stance hasn’t changed, they always wanted to keep hold of him and now that looks more likely to happen if he agrees a new contract with a wage boost included as well.”
