Pierre Sage’s future at Crystal Palace is under massive scrutiny after Sunday’s 5-0 defeat to Brighton. Crystal Palace is backing Sage publicly, but they are looking at possible options if they decide to make a change.
According to TEAMtalk, intermediaries have already started putting names to chairman Steve Parish as recent results have raised serious concerns behind the scenes.
The embarrassing defeat against Brighton marks Palace’s heaviest loss to Brighton since January 1956 and leaves Sage’s side just two points above the relegation zone.
Four managers linked with Crystal Palace job
Pierre Sage has won only two Premier League games since taking charge, against Fulham and Nottingham Forest. Losing 3-2 to Lyon in midweek before being thrashed by Brighton has made his position more difficult, with Palace now preparing for Thursday’s Europa League trip to Besiktas.
Rob Edwards is among the names reportedly being considered. Scott Parker is also on Palace’s radar. He has managed in the Premier League with both Fulham and Bournemouth, and his experience in English football could make him an interesting option if the club moves on from Sage.
Parish admires McKenna as Vitor Matos emerges
Kieran McKenna is another potential candidate. The former Ipswich Town manager left the club in the summer after guiding them from League One to the Premier League through successive promotions. TEAMtalk reports that Parish remains an admirer of the Northern Irishman.
Vitor Matos is also said to be a manager Palace like. The Swansea City boss previously worked as an assistant to Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool, putting him among the names connected with the job.
Sage remains in charge for now and has a chance to respond when Palace visit Besiktas on Thursday. But the latest reports suggest the club are at least looking at what their options might be if results do not improve.
A strong response in Turkey would be welcome after the Brighton humiliation. Another poor display, however, would leave Sage facing even more questions about his future at Selhurst Park.
