Eagles on international duty

We understand how the majority of football fans despise the international break that takes place during the season, meaning there isn’t any top flight football. However this time, the blow has been lightened. There are EIGHT Crystal Palace stars that have been called up to represent their respective countries – and here’s who they are!

Eagles duo Wayne Hennessey and Joe Ledley have both been called up to the Wales side for their games against Cyprus and Israel in a Euro 2016 qualification double header. Should Chris Coleman’s side win both their games and see other fixtures go their way, they could qualify for their first major championship since 1958.

Next up, central midfielder James McArthur has been called up to the Scotland team to come up against Georgia and Germany in two crunching Euro 2016 qualifiers. Gordon Strachan’s side have picked up 11 points from six games and currently sitting in 3rd spot. McArthur will be hoping to add to his 19 international appearances during these two ties.

Yohan Cabaye‘s France have already qualified for the finals of the tournament in their country next year, but the Palace midfielder is still named in Les Bleus’ squad for their friendlies vs Portugal and Serbia.

Heading out of Europe, Bakary Sako could potentially make his first international appearance for Mali since heading to Selhurst Park as they come up against Benin on Sunday in a 2017 AFCON qualifier.

The very same day as Sako, Yannick Bolasie is in DR Congo’s squad to face Central African Republic in another AFCON qualifier. The winger’s side won their first qualifier against Madagascar back in June, and will be hoping for another win.

Papa Souare has been chosen to represent Senegal once again, hoping to add to his 13 caps. His side are hoping to maintain their 100% win record in their qualifying process for AFCON 2017 as they come up against Namibia.

Changing continent once more, Chung-yong Lee has been called up to the South Korea squad for their 2018 World Cup qualifiers as they come up against Laos and Lebanon.

Despite all these call-ups, Palace midfielder Mile Jedinak has been forced to withdraw from the Australia squad who face Bangladesh and Tajikistan following a hamstring problem picked up against Shrewsbury.
