Scott Dann deserves England chance

Former Crystal Palace and England legend Ian Wright has claimed that Eagles defender Scott Dann has earned an England call-up after a string of impressive performances at the heart of the Palace defence this season.

Dann, 28, scored the decisive goal in Palace’s excellent 2-1 victory over Liverpool at Anfield at the weekend and the Englishman will hope that his recent displays will be enough to attract the interest of England boss Roy Hodgson, who may be looking to add more defensive options to his squad ahead of Euro 2016. Also, Hodgson was in attendance on Sunday afternoon to see Dann and his team-mates see off a below-par Liverpool side.

The hard-hitting central defender has had a good spell at Crystal Palace so far under Alan Pardew, but is yet to pick up his first cap for his native England; a stat that Ian Wright feels is wrong and should be rectified.

He gets on and he’s consistent, so he doesn’t do anything too great and he doesn’t do anything too badly.

The 52-year-old former Eagles and England striker also spoke of how Dann would play in an even better manner when surrounded by better players and in particular, a better centre-back such as John Stones of Everton.

If you get him into a position where he’s playing with better players, and I’m not sure if you can say the England players at the moment are better players. But if you put him next to someone like John Stones and you get him as the head on a stick, stopping things.

Dann has been a key figure at the heart of the Palace defence this season and will hope to stake his claim for a place in Roy Hodgson’s plans ahead of Euro 2016 in France next year.
