Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew insists that the club are only intending to sign one player this month, despite being linked with a list of players.

Pardew, speaking to the Croydon Advertiser after Palace’s 2-1 FA Cup victory over Southampton, remained adamant that the Eagles were only targeting a striker.

We will be looking for an offensive player, a striker-type player. Hopefully we can get someone in before the end of January.

The South London club have been heavily linked with moves for Queens Park Rangers frontman Charlie Austin and in-demand Sporting Lisbon forward Islam Slimani, as well as numerous other forwards.

Despite an impressive start to the season, Palace have struggled for goals in the Premier League – scoring an average of just over one per match.

Injuries to Yannick Bolasie, Connor Wickham and Dwight Gayle forced Pardew to field a rotated side against Chelsea last weekend, who lost 3-0 to Guus Hiddink’s recovering side.

Despite links with players such as Jonjo Shelvey, the former Newcastle boss confirmed that all of these rumours were pure speculation.

We’ve been linked with a couple of defenders, there’ll be no defenders coming to this football club.
