Palace boosted by midfielder’s return ahead of FA Cup tie

Crystal Palace manager Alan Pardew has been given a welcome boost with the news that midfielder Jason Puncheon could be available for selection when the Eagles make the short journey to Reading for their FA Cup quarter-final clash on Friday evening.

With Palace being just 90 minutes away from a semi-final at Wembley, the news that one of their better players could be available is a huge boost, especially as the Eagles have not been in great form recently.

Puncheon has not featured for Palace since the 2-1 loss to Bournemouth in early February and, in total, has missed six games with his hamstring issue, but speaking to Mark Ritson of the Croydon Advertiser Pardew revealed that the 29-year-old has resumed training and is in contention to feature against Reading.

He hasn’t missed a lot of football. He has done a lot of work on the training ground and because the type of injury he had, [he has] kept his fitness pretty good. I think he will be in contention for Friday.

When Puncheon was fit, he was playing in an advanced midfield role, so it’ll be interesting to see if that’s where he comes in when he’s back fit. The likelihood is that he will do just that, with Joe Ledley and Yohan Cabaye operating behind him.
