Crystal Palace and Manchester United have been scouting Portuguese midfielder Joao Mario for a while, but it appears that their chances of bringing him to England are all but over after Sporting put a ridiculous price-tag on their player.
According to a report by Steve Millar of the Daily Star, Sporting have put a £55million release clause in Mario’s contract and they don’t intend to sell him for less than that amount.
Mario is set to feature for Portugal in the summer’s European Championships and his ability, as well as his versatility, will impress those who’ll see him for the first time.

The 23-year-old can play in the centre of midfield, as a number ten or on either flank and has been a valuable asset for sporting this season.
He’s scored five goals in 25 league games this season and has also chipped in with a further eight assists.
Despite showing interest in the player, Palace and United will have to look elsewhere for a new addition, unless they can get Sporting to drastically reduce their asking price.
