Palace defender released from jail after successful appeal

Crystal Palace defender Ryan Inniss has been released from jail after successfully appealing his sentence for bottling a man in a bar in Beckenham.

21-year-old Inniss was given a 14-week sentence by a judge at Bexley Magistrates Court, following the incident on 1st May 2016.

The Croydon Advertiser report that Inniss and his companions got into an argument with another group and that dispute led to the defender reaching over and hitting a man at the back of the group with a bottle.

He has had his original 14-week sentence suspended for 18 months – meaning that if he re-appears in court before that time is up, he will be jailed for the length of his sentence on top of whatever repercussions would come of any other offence.

In the statement read out at the appeal hearing, Inniss, who has never played for Palace’s first team, said

“I have no other skillset [besides football] and I need to be able to support my family” “I don’t want to lose everything I’ve worked for because I’ve been stupid.”

Inniss is currently on loan at Southend United, where he will remain until the end of the 2016-17 season.
