Former Inter Milan manager Frank de Boer has been offered the vacant position at Cyrstal Palace, the Mirror reports.

For Palace it appeared to be a straight race between de Boer and Mauricio Pellegrino, but the latter looks likely to take over at Southampton, who were also linked with de Boer.

De Boer has been out of work since being sacked by Inter Milan last year, in what was widely considered a poor spell in Italy. He was relieved of his duties at the San Siro after just 14 games in charge, of which he won just five.

His time with Inter Milan has blighted what looked to be a promising management career.

Kicking his management career off at Ajax, he won four straight Eredivisie titles with the club before eventually making the move to Serie A.

A host of names had been linked with the job but it appears that Palace are closing in on an appointment.
