Jordan: Palace play better without Christian Benteke

Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan has made an interesting claim that the team play better without Christian Benteke.

Jordan discussed the ongoing situation at Selhurst Park with talkSPORT, and suggested that the Eagles play with more freedom when Benteke is not in the team.

I think it’s actually good news that Benteke is out at this moment in time. He’s a good player in a good side but when it’s adversity, he goes hiding a little bit.

The Belgian international is currently out of action, and is nursing ligament damage. He has been sidelined since picking up the injury in the first half of Palace’s away defeat against Manchester City back at the end of September.

He makes you play a certain way when he’s in your side and when he’s not there; I think Palace will play differently.

With Palace boss Roy Hodgson unable to lure a striker of sufficient quality from the free agent market to the club, Bakary Sako has been used as an auxiliary striker at times.

The return of Wilfried Zaha has undoubtedly boosted the Eagles, and his presence was evidently beneficial in Palace’s 2-1 win at home to Chelsea two weeks ago.

I think it’ll get Zaha going again because Zaha is very much a talismanic Palace player.

Palace will now look to pick up only their second win of the season against West Ham on Saturday.
