Crystal Palace made a late move in the hope of landing Leander Dendoncker from RSC Anderlecht, as confirmed by the club’s general manager Herman Van Holsbeeck.
The Eagles appear to have been among a host of Premier League clubs to have expressed an interest in Dendoncker and it seems they may have had a chance of landing him, but their bid came too late on the final day of the January transfer window.
A report from Sporza, a news outlet in Belgium, reveals Palace’s last minute bid and then goes on to quote Van Holsbeeck’s comments on Dendoncker and his current predicament at Anderlecht.

Especially the time of the negotiations was unfortunate. If we had received that offer on 2 January, we would have a whole month to negotiate and find an alternative. Dendoncker has the potential to play in a better league, everyone knows, but negotiating on deadline day was not negotiable for the club, and I tried to explain that to him and his surroundings in a serene way.
Dendoncker was reportedly desperate to secure a move to an English club last month and was holding out for an offer to be processed on Wednesday throughout the evening.
However, negotiations between Anderlecht and potential suitors appear to have been held at an inconvenient time for the Belgian giants.
West Ham and Watford also wanted to sign Dendoncker.
