Crystal Palace were left frustrated by a resilient Newcastle United side this afternoon, as the teams played out an entertaining 1-1 draw.

The Eagles were aiming to make their home advantage count by taking the game to a struggling Newcastle side but it was the visitors who took the lead after an early flurry of pressure. Mohamed Diame connected at the back post from a corner, helping the Magpies to a 1-0 lead.

Christian Benteke had a good chance to level things but failed to do so, as the ball bobbled up to him too quickly to connect, just three-yards out. Ayoze Perez was also denied brilliantly by Wayne Hennessey.

Palace’s endeavour paid off in the second-half, though, and Ciaran Clark gave away a penalty as a result of shirt-pulling. Luka Milivojevic stepped up and squeezed the ball past Karl Darlow.

A tightly-contested affair finished 1-1 between the sides in what was an intriguing clash. Here are our Crystal Palace player ratings.
