Pierre Sage reaction after first Crystal Palace win over Nottingham

Crystal Palace finally have a Premier League win over Nottingham Forest to celebrate after coming through a difficult contest to claim a 3-1 victory.

The result ends a frustrating run against Nottingham Forest. Crystal Palace had failed to beat them in their previous 12 league meetings, drawing eight and losing four.

It was not a pleasant comeback for Oliver Glasner to Selhurst Park, who left the Eagles for Nottingham after a successful spell.

Pierre Sage’s side were made to work for the three points, and Sage admitted afterwards that his team had been tested by their opponents.

Sage explains what made the difference

Speaking to BBC Sport, Sage was pleased with the result, even if he felt Palace could have played better.

“We are happy to win this game but we were aware of this one. We struggled a lot against a good team. They analysed us very well. In the end we won, and that is the most important thing.”

Sage also pointed to a crucial moment when Palace goalkeeper Benitez prevented Forest from moving two goals ahead.

“The most important moment was when Benitez saved to prevent it 2-0. At this moment we stayed in the game.”

Palace were not at their best throughout the match, but Sage was pleased with the character shown by his players when the game became difficult.

“We were not perfect, but we are a team with a big heart and a big solidarity. Sometimes you have to win like this.”

With a long season ahead, Sage hinted at squad rotation as well, stressing that every player will have a part to play, regardless of their current role.

“The message is everyone is really important because the season is really long. They deserve a day off, it is a good way to give something. It is a day off for the players, but for us we have to really be focused on Lyon now.”

After ending their unwanted run against Forest, Palace can now focus on their Lyon trip for Europa League on Thursday.
