Hodgson discusses Kelly’s injury
Much to the annoyance of Crystal Palace boss Roy Hodgson, the injuries are continuing to mount for his side.
The Eagles have undergone an injury crisis in recent weeks and have struggled to field their strongest line-up. As a result of this, they have been cost points and have not been in great form of late.
During their recent 1-1 draw against Newcastle United at Selhurst Park, Hodgson was delivered with another setback as defender Martin Kelly was forced off with a hamstring problem.
Former England boss Hodgson discussed the extent of Kelly’s injury, as quoted by the Croydon Advertiser, and spoke ruefully of how the knock appears to be a muscle-related one.
It’s very annoying because we’ve worked hard to avoid muscle injuries. That came about because of a foul – he felt a twinge in his hamstring because of the foul. He was moving away from a player who was pulling him back and the movement he had to make to get forward to the ball made him tweak his hamstring.
Mamadou Sakho’s return to action has been a timely one for Palace and it seems he will be called upon in the coming weeks as Kelly looks to nurse his fresh hamstring issue.
Hodgson will hope that Kelly’s issue is not one that will keep him out for a prolonged period of time.
We won’t know until tomorrow how damaging that hamstring pull is. They can be very damaging as we all know, or we might be lucky because he came off straight away and as it wasn’t a violent movement, it might be that he is not going to be out for as long as he might have been.
