Cavalieri keen to stay at Crystal Palace beyond the summer

Diego Cavalieri was only recruited on a short-term deal by Crystal Palace in the past month but has already expressed his happiness to be with the London club.

Speaking to ESPN, as cited by the Croydon Advertiser, the experienced goalkeeper admitted that if he is given the opportunity, he would be open to an extended stay at Crystal Palace.

The important thing is to be prepared. And also to show my potential, my professionalism too. Even if I don’t have the chance to play, you can get to the end of this contract and renew, who knows.

Cavalieri is yet to play a minute of football for the Eagles but was recruited to act as another first-team goalkeeper for Roy Hodgson to choose from. The ex-England manager has favoured Wayne Hennessey in large parts this season.

The Brazilian goalkeeper has previous experience of the Premier League due to his tenure with Liverpool as a fringe player. It seems the 35-year-old is a fan of the English top flight and is evidently open to sticking around for a while longer with Palace.

I’m happy for the chance, being able to return to England, to the Premier League, very competitive football, I really like the mentality, the way things work here.

Cavalieri joined the Eagles on a free transfer on 2 March after being released by Brazilian club Fluminense.

Whether the goalkeeper will remain at Palace beyond the summer is unknown, though, with Getafe goalkeeper Vicente Guaita having signed a pre-contract agreement with the club ahead of next season.
