Speaking to Football London, Crystal Palace defender Sam Woods has confirmed that he had loan offers from League Two clubs during the summer transfer window.
The youngster played a big part in Palace’s pre-season preparations and has been in and around the first-team for a while now.
However, a potential departure appeared to be on the cards for Woods in the summer as a number of Palace’s younger players began to depart on temporary deals.
Nevertheless, Woods told Football London that despite offers coming in from the lower leagues of English football, Palace opted to retain his services for the time being.
There was interest from League Two, but the club decided to keep me. Maybe we will look at it in January again, but at the moment I am helping out wherever I can.
Woods is also an important player for the Eagles’ Under-23 side. Earlier this week, he wore the captain’s armband as the youngsters eased to a 4-0 victory against Barnsley U23s.
The defender was quick to highlight the importance of working with the senior group prior to the competitive campaign, singling out Martin Kelly’s influence on his defensive improvement.
You pick up little hints and tips. Pre-season working with Martin Kelly, he is good at that and he is one of the guys who help us younger ones out.
