The Eagles forward has undergone successful knee surgery but will remain out of actions for some months yet, as he begins his rehabilitation.
Benteke has endured a difficult start to the season, failing to find the net in the Premier League, but has still remained Hodgson’s first-choice striker at the club.
The 27-year-old has been out of action since Palace’s 2-0 home defeat to Southampton last month, forcing Hodgson to look elsewhere for attacking inspiration.
It was initially expected that Benteke would return to training in the not so distant future, following the surgery’s success.
However, Hodgson’s latest claims indicate that the Belgian international will be forced to spend a prolonged period on the sidelines as he works his way back from a knee problem.
