Crystal Palace are facing a nervous wait on the fitness of star defender Mamadou Sakho after he picked up an injury whilst on international duty, according to a report on Football London.

The centre-back started for France in the friendly against Uruguay but was replaced at half-time with a suspected back injury.

The 28-year-old reportedly complained of back pain and the full extent of the injury is still not known.

Sakho is now an early doubt to miss the trip to Old Trafford on Saturday afternoon and manager Roy Hodgson will be hoping that it is only a minor issue.

Fellow defender James Tomkins is also recovering from an injury and is in a race with time to be fit for the match.

Sakho’s injury could give the Eagles a defensive crisis, with both first-choice centre-backs not confirmed as fully fit.

The Frenchman is returning to London where the club will run further tests on the problem.
