Palace face competition for non-league star Mensah

Crystal Palace risk missing out on highly-rated non-league defender Jacob Mensah this month, with Wolves said to be working on a deal, according to Football Insider.

Mensah, who plays for Ramsgate in the Isthmian League South East Division, has attracted the attention of a host of clubs further up the English football league pyramid this season with a number of impressive performances.

Alongside Crystal Palace, Wolves and Cardiff have sent scouts to watch the young defender on a number of occasions, and Mensah has impressed.

Mensah has been dubbed by a Football Insider source as the ‘new Chris Smalling’, drawing comparisons to Smalling’s own past playing in non-league football for Maidstone United.

At just 18, Mensah has played over 60 games and has been tipped to have a bright future.

Mensah is on a non-contract basis currently at Ramsgate, and so Crystal Palace should be quick to shore up their interest if they want to beat other interested clubs to his signature.
