Zaha charged with misconduct after red card against Southampton

Wilfried Zaha has been charged with misconduct after being sent off in Palace’s 1-1 draw with Southampton on Wednesday.

The forward opened the scoring for the Eagles at St Mary’s before he was sent off in the 87th minute.

Zaha’s charge relates to his sarcastic clapping of referee Andre Marriner after the decision to book Zaha, which then turned into a red card.

The 26-year-old could now face an extended ban on top of the ban for his red card against the Saints.

Zaha has until 18:00 GMT on 5 February 2019 to respond to the charge by the FA.

Palace have been notably poor without the attacker in the side, so an extended ban could be a huge blow for manager Roy Hodgson.

Crystal Palace recently signed Bakary Sako from West Bromwich Albion, in a deal seeing the winger return to Selhurst Park after only a short time away from the club.
