According to the London Evening Standard, Crystal Palace are interested in signing Liverpool’s keeper Simon Mignolet.
The Belgian had a disastrous time last season having been left on the sidelines for the majority of the campaign after the signing of Brazil’s no.1 Alisson Becker.
The Belgian international, who only appeared twice last season, has 245 Premier League appearances under his belt from his spells with Liverpool and Sunderland.
A fee of around £8 million is what’s being discussed at the moment, this would be great for the Eagles as they would be getting an experienced keeper at the top level and a Belgian international too.
Mignolet has shown in the past that on his day he can be a quality keeper, his sharp reflexes have proven he is more than capable of starting regularly in the Premier League.
The Reds would need to find a replacement with Southampton’s Alex McCarthy being mentioned as a potential target.
Why would Mignolet be a good signing for Palace?
The Belgian has made nearly 350 appearances at club level and is very experienced between the sticks.
The 31-year-old has been capped 21 times for his country, proving that he is a quality shot-stopper.
Ready to go
Mignolet will face no problems in adapting to the demands of the Premier League.
Having been on the bench for the best part of two seasons, Mignolet should have the added motivation to prove his doubters wrong.
