These Palace fans react to Hodgson’s use of Meyer in Sheffield United loss
Crystal Palace suffered their first defeat of the Premier League season on Sunday, losing 1-0 at Sheffield United.
A limp performance left many Eagles supporters disappointed, as they still search for their first goal of the campaign.
There were numerous disappointing aspects to Palace’s play, but the players weren’t the only ones earning criticism after the game.
Roy Hodgson received flack for his tactics, with his decision to play Max Meyer out wide, and also substitute him in the second half, leaving many baffled.
Here’s how they reacted to it on Twitter.
Why not switch Meyer in the middle and take Mcarthur off or is that common sense

Imagine starting Meyer as a left winger & bringing on two midfielders when we were 1-0 down. Shambles Hodgson. #CPFC

Meyer out wide, Wilf down the middle, hodgson has not got a clue?

That was awful!
– Both full backs look scarred to have the ball at their feet.
-Max Meyer out of position
– Wilf our of position
– no one to score
– I can see hodgson leaving before Jan?
Rant over, on to the next game

Playing Max Meyer who initially made his name as an attacking midfielder then later played as a DM, out wide, when he has very few of the attributes associated with playing there, is peak Roy Hodgson.
Meyer now has 17 league starts for #cpfc – 1 goal & 0 big chances created.

Read Crystal Palace Verdict
Despite Hodgson’s popularity at Palace, there are now definite murmurings of discontent surrounding his performance as manager.
Sunday’s performance was well short of the required quality, leaving the Eagles win-less after two matches.
With a trip to Manchester United to come on Saturday, a maiden victory of 2019/20 may have to wait until after the international break.
Using Meyer out wide was inexcusable, considering the reputation he has built up in a central role, and Hodgson deserves criticism for that decision.
That is a tactic that must change moving forward, or Palace will continue to look disjointed.
