A number of Crystal Palace fans have been reacting to a report from The Athletic that midfielder Jairo Riedewald is set to sign a new deal with the Eagles after his recent impact in the starting line-up.
Riedewald was something of a forgotten figure at Selhurst Park at the start of the campaign. The Netherlands international had fallen down the pecking order under Roy Hodgson and only made 17 Premier League appearances last term, with just seven of those from the start (Sofascore).
However, despite once again starting this season on the bench, the midfielder has been offered a chance to come into the starting line-up during the last few weeks. During that time he has produced a string of impressive performances and even picked up the club’s Player of the Month award for October.
The midfielder has become an integral member of Palace’s starting line-up averaging 1.7 tackles per game and also maintaining an impressive 92% passing accuracy for the Eagles so far this term (Sofascore). That has seen him dispel any potential doubts over his ability to make it at Selhurst Park and the Dutchman could now been a key part of Hodgson’s side in the long-term.
Palace fans react to potential new deal for Riedewald
Many Crystal Palace fans feel that a new contracts would be much-deserved for the Dutchman, while one fan pointed out the “extraordinary” transformation that the midfielder has made this season and commended his patience in waiting for his chance to impress.

The old cliche, he is like a new signing, but he genuinely is. One less player we have to buy. He is so good https://t.co/pqvlYEerFs

This is huge and I personally think he deserves it. Works hard, doesn’t complain, earned a starting job in our squad, and is performing well. Hopefully Riedewald’s new contract gets done soon! https://t.co/B1RLGm4cUl

Jairo signing a new contract would be the next step in the most extraordinary journey. Many (like me) didn’t see the fuss. Roy didn’t pick him for a long long time. Yet he waited for his chance, didn’t drop a division, waited more & has now taken it. There are lessons for us all https://t.co/cqhUIZFBb6
