- Palace keen to extend Chris Richards’ stay
- Is Chadi Riad ready to start in the Premier League?
- Richards could attract interest with strong World Cup
Crystal Palace are reportedly exploring the possibility of extending central defender Chris Richards’ contract with the club, as reported by Football Insider.
The 26-year-old, who will play for the USA at the World Cup this Summer, has been a stand out name for Palace this season.
His performances across the last two seasons have seen him earn status as one of Palace’s most important players.
Richards has taken to life in South London with ease and has also encapsulated the spirit of the club and become a key player both on and off the pitch.
With just one year left on his current deal, Palace are keen to extend Richards’ stay at Selhurst Park.

Tying down stars will be key for Palace
A summer of change and transition awaits the club who won three trophies in the span of 13 months. A new manager is incoming – we previously shared the news of Pierre Sage’s imminent announcement – and a shakeup of players including starters.
It’s therefore vital that Palace can maintain the core of their squad where possible, and tying Richards down to a new deal will be a huge step in the right direction.
Richards’ future could be influenced by how successful himself and the USMT are at the World Cup, with the hosts kicking off their tournament on Saturday.
The good news for Palace fans is that Richards is reportedly keen to extend his stay in South London, and is in no rush to leave the club which took a punt on him when he was out of favour at Bayern Munich.
Going into his fifth season with the club, Richards will once again play a huge role, especially with the Eagles embarking on their first voyage into Europa League football following their Conference League triumph just two weeks ago.
Reason to worry if Richards leaves
There is a debate to be had surrounding Palace’s position if Richards were to leave the club. Marc Guéhi was considered irreplaceable by many fans, but Jaydee Canvot has filled the void left by Guéhi’s departure and has done so, for the most part, without fault.
Chadi Riad has struggled with injuries since his move to Palace back in 2024. The 23-year-old was signed for just £12m, and has been included in Morocco’s World Cup squad.
Reintroduced to the Palace first team after time with the Under-21s, Riad played a starring role in the Conference League final in Leipzig and reminded fans of just how exciting a talent he is.
Whilst Palace will hope to convince Richards to extend his stay with the club, the groundwork done by Dougie Freedman before his departure continues to bear fruit.
