Crystal Palace Women are reportedly set to sign former Tottenham Hotspur captain Bethany England on a free transfer.
The striker is available after leaving Tottenham following the expiry of her contract at the end of last season.
England’s proposed move would give Jo Potter an established Women’s Super League goalscorer as Palace prepare for their immediate return to the top flight. The report states that she is heading to the newly promoted Eagles.
The 32-year-old left Spurs as the club’s record WSL goalscorer, having joined from Chelsea in January 2023.
England would add proven quality to Palace attack
England scored 32 league goals during her Tottenham career and captained the club before her summer departure.
The Guardian reported that Tottenham decided not to renew her contract, making her available without a transfer fee. The forward scored seven goals in 19 WSL appearances during her final season in north London.
Her arrival would add experience to an attack already containing Ashleigh Weerden, who produced a division-record 10 assists during Palace’s promotion campaign.
ReadCrystalPalace recently covered how Weerden’s new contract provides Palace with continuity before their WSL return.
England has scored consistently throughout spells with Chelsea and Tottenham. She also has major-tournament experience with the Lionesses and understands the demands of competing at the top of the WSL.
Palace still need to confirm the agreement officially. However, signing England on a free transfer would represent an ambitious move for a promoted side and give Potter a proven focal point for the new season.
