- England set to lose Tino Livramento for World Cup
- Crystal Palace star should be his replacement
- Oliver Glasner called him ‘one of the best’
England boss Thomas Tuchel is set to find a replacement for Tino Livramento, who is expected to miss the World Cup. The Newcastle United full-back had made the 26-man squad for the tournament.
According to The Telegraph, Livramento has suffered a calf injury on the eve of the Three Lions’ opener against Croatia. He is now likely to be ruled out and Tuchel will be turning to a defensive emergency call-up.
Chelsea’s Trevoh Chalobah is reportedly among those under consideration to replace Livramento. But Tuchel should instead prioritise a Crystal Palace star who enjoyed one of his best seasons.
Tuchel must call up Tyrick Mitchell
Tyrick Mitchell is the ideal replacement given his versatility and consistency. He can play at wing-back as well as full-back and had shockingly been omitted from the 55-man provisional squad.
The Palace star made 55 appearances across competitions last season, posting three goals and four assists. It’s outrageous that he has only been handed two caps with England thus far in his career.
Tuchel will probably go with Chalobah given his history coaching the defender at Chelsea. But the centre-back didn’t impress at all during the 2025-26 campaign and isn’t a full-back.
The Three Lions boss can replace Livramento 24 hours before the Group L game against Croatia on Wednesday. If he wants one of the Premier League’s most consistent full-backs, he must turn to Mitchell.
Glasner thinks Mitchell is “one of the best”
One person who would back Mitchell replacing Livramento is his former Palace boss Oliver Glasner. The Austrian has always spoken glowingly of the 26-year-old.
Glasner applauded Mitchell last season saying (via OurCPFC): “T was always one of the best defenders in the Premier League.”
Mitchell made his international debut back in March 2022 in a 2-1 friendly win over Switzerland. His second cap came against Ivory Coast in a 3-0 victory in another friendly.
