- Crystal Palace eyeing Arne Engels
- Eagles battling Nottingham Forest for Celtic star
- Belgian could be a good signing
Crystal Palace are reportedly in a race with Nottingham Forest to sign Celtic midfielder Arne Engels. The Eagles are expected to sign a new central midfielder this summer.
According to Sacha Tavolieri, Palace are looking to beat Forest to Engels and are in for the Belgian. He has impressed during his time with the Bhoys in the Scottish Premiership.
The South London outfit have reportedly offered Daichi Kamada a new contract to try and keep the Japanese midfielder. But they seem keen on adding a new midfielder to new manager Pierre Sage’s squad.
Palace battle Forest for Engels
Engels, hailed as “outstanding,” is the latest midfielder to be linked with Palace. Middlesbrough’s Hayden Hackney is also on the club’s wishlist but Everton seem to be frontrunners for the Englishman.
The club’s transfer chiefs seem to have added Engels to the list and he ticks plenty of boxes. He is a versatile midfielder who enjoyed a fine past season, registering seven goals and eight assists in 46 games across competitions.
Forest are also eyeing the 22-year-old and view him as an ideal Elliot Anderson replacement. The latter is likely to join Manchester City in a big-money transfer.
Why Selhurst Park is more appealing
Palace hold an advantage over Forest as they can offer Engels European football next season. Sage will take charge of the Eagles’ Europa League campaign, a competition they should have been in last season.
A move for the Belgian might be with Kamada’s future in mind as he has yet to agree on a contract extension. He will be a huge miss if he leaves Selhurst Park.
Engels also offers versatility, able to play in central midfield, defensive midfield and on the right wing. He has experience playing in Europe, including the UEFA Champions League.
