Crystal Palace forward Jørgen Strand Larsen is through to the World Cup last 32 with Norway after their 3-2 win over Senegal in Group I on Monday night.
The Palace man remained an unused substitute at the New York New Jersey Stadium, but the result still matters at Selhurst Park. Norway’s second win of the group stage secured qualification for the knockout round, while also setting up a Friday meeting with France in Boston.
According to Crystal Palace’s official World Cup tracker, Norway beat Iraq 4-1 in their opening match before edging Senegal 3-2, with Strand Larsen staying on the bench in both games.
What Norway’s qualification means for Palace
For Palace, the immediate significance is simple: Strand Larsen’s tournament is continuing into the new round of 32, keeping one of Pierre Sage’s attacking options involved on the biggest stage this summer.
There is also a wider Palace subplot in Group I. France, who face Norway next, have Maxence Lacroix and Jean-Philippe Mateta in their squad, while Ismaïla Sarr’s Senegal remain in the qualification conversation despite losing twice. That makes Friday’s final group fixtures relevant across the Selhurst Park dressing room, not just for Strand Larsen.
Strand Larsen will now hope his first World Cup minutes arrive against elite opposition, with Norway already safe and able to manage the final group game from a position of strength.
