Daichi Kamada is reportedly closing in on a new Crystal Palace contract, handing Pierre Sage a timely midfield boost before the 2026/27 season.
Tribuna, citing The Athletic, reports that Kamada is now expected to remain at Selhurst Park beyond the end of his current deal.
That matters because Palace had already confirmed, in their retained and released list, that the Japan international had been offered fresh terms.
His existing agreement runs to the end of June after he joined the club in 2024 on a two-year deal.
Kamada Form Gives Sage A Useful Early Win
Kamada’s likely stay arrives at a useful moment for Sage, who is reshaping Palace after replacing Oliver Glasner and inheriting a squad preparing for another European campaign.
The 29-year-old has also sharpened his case during the World Cup. Palace’s own update noted that Japan had reached the last 32, while Read Crystal Palace recently highlighted Kamada’s full 90 minutes against Sweden.
Reuters reported that Japan’s 1-1 draw with Sweden secured second place in Group F and set up a last-32 meeting with Brazil.
For Palace, this is not just retention for retention’s sake.
Kamada gives Sage a technically secure connector between midfield and attack, and keeping that profile in-house reduces one more summer problem before the serious transfer decisions begin.
With European football, Premier League demands and World Cup workload all sitting in the background, Palace need as many clean squad answers as possible.
Kamada staying would be one of the more useful early ones.
